John Wayne stars as Charles "Pittsburgh" Markham in this 1942 drama about a coal miner who values wealth and power over his friends and ideals. When his fortune crumbles, he discovers an unexpected second chance and tries to win back the people he wronged, including Josie Winters (Marlene Dietrich) and Cash Evans (Randolph Scott), with whom he eventually reunites as friends again in a patriotic message set against World War II.
