Biography
Arthur Gordon "Art" Smith was a veteran stage and screen actor born in Chicago, known for his supporting roles in Hollywood productions of the 1940s, particularly in film noir classics such as Body and Soul (1947) and In a Lonely Place (1950). He originated the role of Doc in the stage version of West Side Story in 1957. Smith's career was marked by his dignified portrayal of studious types, often playing doctors or butlers.
