Diahann Carroll

Biography

Diahann Carroll was a trailblazing American actress, singer, and model who rose to stardom in early major studio films featuring black casts, including Carmen Jones and Porgy and Bess. She won a Tony Award for her role in No Strings and broke ground with her starring role in the groundbreaking TV series Julia, which paved the way for future generations of Black women on television. Carroll received numerous awards and nominations, including an Academy Award nod for Claudine.
