Rajit Kapoor, born May 22, 1963 in Amritsar, is a distinguished Indian film and theatre actor and director. He gained fame portraying the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi in the eponymous television series on Doordarshan in 1993, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor. Kapoor also won acclaim for his role as Mahatma Gandhi in The Making of the Mahatma (1996).
