John Ridgely was a versatile American film character actor born on September 6, 1909, in Chicago, Illinois. He appeared in over 175 films, including notable roles as Eddie Mars in The Big Sleep (1946) and a suffering heart patient in Nora Prentiss (1947). Ridgely worked extensively for Warner Bros. before freelancing from 1948, eventually retiring from films in 1953 to pursue summer theater and television productions until his death at 58 in 1968.
