Edgar Livingston Kennedy was a prolific American comedic film character actor, known for his distinctive "Slow Burn" facial expression and ability to convey frustration through deliberate gestures. He appeared in over 500 films during the silent and sound eras, playing roles that often featured him as hotheads or comical detectives. His most notable appearances include Duck Soup and Hal Roach films, where he honed his signature temper-fraying performance style. Kennedy died of throat cancer at age 58.
