Phil Brown

Biography

Philip Mortimer Brown was an American actor and director born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1916. He majored in dramatics at Stanford University, where he joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, before playing early stage roles with New York's Group Theatre. In Hollywood, he helped found the Actors' Laboratory Theatre, appearing in notable films like The Killers (1946) and later becoming a cult figure for his role as Owen Lars in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977).
