Roman Polański is a Polish-French film director, producer, writer, and actor born in Paris to Polish parents in 1933. He survived the Holocaust as a child, continuing his education in Poland before relocating to France and later England, where he gained international recognition with films like Rosemary's Baby (1968) and Chinatown (1974). Polański won the Academy Award for Best Director for The Pianist (2002), cementing his status as a master filmmaker.
