Jan Rubeš

Biography

Jan Ladislav Rubeš was a Czech-Canadian bass opera singer and actor born in Volyně, Czechoslovakia, on June 6, 1920. He won first prize at the Geneva International Music Festival in 1948 and emigrated to Canada, where he achieved recognition for his roles in operas such as "Boris Godunov" and "Faust." Rubeš also transitioned to television, hosting "Guess What?" from 1975-83 and later receiving an Earle Grey Award for lifetime work.
