The Hocken family moves to Gull Island with their two young daughters and pet dog, seeking a quiet summer after the loss of their son Tommy 30 years prior. As they settle into their new home, they begin to experience an increasingly erratic bird behavior, starting with aggressive seagulls attacking a fisherman's corpse. Ted, determined to complete his thesis, tries to brush off the unsettling events, but the situation escalates when his hand is wounded by a crow and his daughters are attacked by birds while trying to rescue a small bird.
