Karel Stepanek was a Czech actor and singer who spent his early career in Austria and Germany, primarily playing German-speaking roles onscreen. Before fleeing Nazi Germany in 1939, he made over 20 film appearances, including supporting roles in films like A Love, A Thief, A Department Store (1928) and sound films from the 1930s. Stepanek later found success in England, specializing in portrayal of Teutonic villains and making notable appearances in films like The Captive Heart (1946) and Sink the Bismarck! (1960).
