Robert Rae Cornthwaite was a character actor born in Saint Helens, Oregon on April 28, 1917. He began his acting career in the 1930s and served as an intelligence officer in the Army Air Force during World War II before transitioning to a broadcasting role with the Mediterranean Allied Air Forces from 1944-1945. Cornthwaite's early interest in acting was sparked by a school play recitation, which set him on a path that would lead to notable roles in films like "Stranger on Horseback" and "Monkey Business".
