Esther Rolle was a Bahamian American actress known for her roles in Maude and Good Times. She played the character Florida Evans on two popular sitcoms, earning a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. Rolle also won an Emmy Award for her role in Summer of My German Soldier, a made-for-television movie, becoming the first Black actress to do so in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category.
