Sumi Shimamoto is a Japanese actress and narrator born on December 8, 1954, in Kōchi. She graduated from Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music before joining the theatrical acting troupe Gekidan Seinenza. After winning Hayao Miyazaki's role as Nausicaä for her portrayal of Clarisse in The Castle of Cagliostro, she went on to appear in notable films like My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke.
