Tonari no Totoro

Two young sisters, Satsuki (Noriko Hidaka voice) and Mei (Chika Sakamoto voice), move to the countryside with their father to be closer to their hospitalized mother. In postwar Japan, they encounter magical spirits, including Totoro, who inhabit the surrounding trees. When Mei runs away, Satsuki seeks help from the spirits, and Totoro's superpowers lead to a reunion with their lost sister. The film explores themes of animism, Shinto symbology, environmentalism, and the joys of rural living.
