Hou Hsiao-hsien
Biography
Hou Hsiao-hsien is a retired award-winning film director and leading figure of Taiwan's New Wave cinema movement. He won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival in 1989 for A City of Sadness, and the Best Director award at Cannes Film Festival in 2015 for The Assassin. His works include The Puppetmaster (1993) and Flowers of Shanghai (1998), which have received critical acclaim worldwide.
