William Bendix was a talented American actor, best known for his iconic roles in film and television. He earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Wake Island (1942) and played the lovable but clumsy Chester A. Riley in both radio and television's The Life of Riley. Bendix also portrayed baseball legend Babe Ruth in The Babe Ruth Story, cementing his legacy as a master of playing rough, blue-collar characters.
