Charles Ellsworth Grapewin was an American actor and vaudeville performer known for his rustic, folksy characters in films such as The Wizard of Oz (1939), where he played Uncle Henry, Grandpa Joad in The Grapes of Wrath (1940), and Jeeter Lester in Tobacco Road (1941). Born in Xenia, Ohio, Grapewin ran away to join the circus at age 10, later appearing in various theatrical productions and writing his own stage plays. He had a long career in film, starring in over 100 movies before his death at 86 in 1956.
