S. Z. Sakall was a Hungarian-American stage and film character actor born Jakab Grünwald on February 2, 1883. He gained notoriety for his roles in classic Hollywood productions, including Casablanca, In the Good Old Summertime, and Lullaby of Broadway. Known affectionately as "Cuddles" for his rotund body type and caring persona, Sakall was a stalwart character-acting veteran of his era, earning praise for his performances despite brief involvement in some storylines.
