In 1843, a group of settlers, led by Senator William J. Tadlock, embark on a perilous journey overland to establish a new settlement in the Western US. As they traverse the Oregon Trail, the families face death, heartbreak, and the harsh realities of frontier justice when one of them accidentally kills a young Indian boy. The group's dynamics are put to the test as Tadlock clashes with Lije Evans, who doesn't appreciate his demanding leadership style, while others grapple with love, loss, and loyalty in the face of adversity.
