Touch of Evil

"Touch of Evil" (1958) is a film noir directed by Orson Welles, who also stars as Police Captain Hank Quinlan, alongside Charlton Heston as Mexican detective Miguel Vargas and Janet Leigh as Vargas's new bride, Susie. A time bomb explodes on the US-Mexico border, killing two people, leading to an investigation led by the corrupt and bigoted Quinlan, who is aided by his devoted assistant, Pete Menzies. As Vargas investigates further, he uncovers evidence of Quinlan's corruption and eventually teams up with Uncle Joe Grandi against Quinlan, leading to a deadly struggle over power, justice, and truth.
