7th Heaven

In the early 1910s, a sewer worker named Chico dreams of leaving his mundane job to become a street sweeper, seeking a life above ground and connection with God. His prayers are answered when he rescues a young prostitute, Diane, from an abusive situation, and they fall in love amidst a backdrop of war and social change. As their relationship deepens, Chico is recruited into the battlefield, leaving Diane to face hardships on her own, only for him to return blind after being wrongly reported dead.
