When the skeleton of his murdered predecessor is found, Sheriff Sam Deeds unearths many other long-buried secrets in his Texas border town. Sam Deeds, played by Chris Cooper, begins an investigation that uncovers a dark history of corruption and violence in Frontera, Texas. The town, a border town with a complex racial and cultural landscape, holds secrets about Sam's own family, including his recently deceased father, Buddy, who was married to the widowed Pilar Cruz.
