Romance in Manhattan

Karel Novak (Francis Lederer), a naive Czechoslovak immigrant, arrives in New York City with $58, only to discover the immigration fee has been raised. He meets Sylvia Dennis (Ginger Rogers), a chorus girl who takes him in and finds him work as a taxi driver. As they navigate the complexities of immigration and life in the city, Sylvia and Karel form a bond, and eventually, he proposes to her, leading to a whirlwind romance and a marriage that saves his immigration status.
