The Year of Living Dangerously

Guy Hamilton (Mel Gibson), a young Australian journalist, arrives in Jakarta with the help of Billy Kwan (Linda Hunt), a diminutive Chinese-Australian photographer, who arranges interviews with key political figures. There, he meets Jill Bryant (Sigourney Weaver), a British embassy officer, and they fall in love. However, their relationship is complicated when Jill discovers that the Chinese communists are arming the Indonesian Communist Party, putting all foreigners in danger, and Billy's death at the hands of Sukarno's security forces has a profound impact on Guy, who continues to pursue a story that ultimately puts him in harm's way.
