Nanjing! Nanjing!

The film "Nanjing! Nanjing!" is set in 1937, during the Second Sino-Japanese War, and tells the story of the Nanking Massacre. The story follows Lieutenant Lu Jianxiong (Liu Ye), who, along with his comrade Shunzi, attempts to stop a group of deserting troops from leaving the city, only to be captured by Japanese forces. Lu Jianxiong develops feelings for a Japanese prostitute named Yuriko, while struggling with the violence and atrocities committed by the Japanese army. The film also explores the experiences of other characters, including John Rabe (John Paisley), a German businessman who runs the Nanjing Safety Zone, and Xiaojiang, a prostitute who refuses to cut her hair to protect herself from Japanese soldiers.
