Le Petit Soldat

In 1958, during the Algerian War, Bruno Forestier (Michel Subor) is a French agent in Geneva, posing as a reporter for a paramilitary group waging a shadow war against the Algerian independence movement. He falls in love with Véronica Dreyer (Anna Karina), who is working with the FLN, and dreams of escaping to Brazil with her. Tired of his superiors' demands, Bruno refuses to carry out an assassination, but is eventually captured and tortured by the Algerians, who had seen him following a pro-FLN radio host. Despite this, Bruno manages to escape and eventually kills the radio host, learning that Véronica has died in the process.
