Manon

A young woman, Manon Lescaut (Cécile Aubry), and her boyfriend, Robert Dégrieux (Michel Auclair), a French Resistance fighter, tell the captain of a ship about their struggles to survive after being caught as stowaways. The narrative flashes back to 1944 in a Normandy village, where Manon is accused of collaborating with the Nazis, and Robert rescues her. The couple's relationship is tested as they face poverty and Léon Lescaut (Serge Reggiani), Manon's brother, encourages her to capitalize on her beauty. They eventually flee to the countryside, but ultimately return to Paris, where Manon resumes her lavish lifestyle through prostitution and black market involvement.
