Fred MacMurray stars as Pete Marshall, a hapless pollster who becomes entangled in the hunt for a cache of money with a murderous rural family. Marjorie Main shines as Mamie Fleagle Smithers Johnson, the cunning and poisonous matriarch of the clan. As Pete tries to decipher the clues hidden in a seemingly meaningless song, Claire Matthews (Helen Walker) teams up with him to uncover the truth and escape the Fleagles' clutches.
