Melancholia

In a hauntingly beautiful and deeply unsettling film, two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth. A beautifully photographed and scored series of images of real planets colliding serves as the opening sequence before we are presented with a loved-up couple stuck in an eighty-foot white limousine trying to navigate some country lanes to get to their own wedding. As the film progresses, it becomes clear that this is not just a story about the end of the world, but also a deeply personal and psychological exploration of depression, mental health, and the complexities of sisterly love.
