The Draughtsman's Contract

Mr. Neville, a young and conceited artist, is contracted by Mrs. Virginia Herbert to produce a series of twelve landscape drawings of her country house, its outbuildings and gardens, as a gift for her cold and neglectful husband. Part of the contract includes a sexual liaison with Mrs. Herbert, which she agrees to, but Neville's sexual demands become increasingly aggressive, leading to a complicated and tense relationship. Meanwhile, Neville's assistant, Philip, tries to keep the drawings on track, but the tension between Neville and Mrs. Herbert eventually leads to a tragic outcome. As the mystery unfolds, it becomes clear that the drawings hold clues to a murder, but the true identity of the killer remains ambiguous.
