Akage

In 19th century Japan, during the Meiji period, Gonzo (Toshirō Mifune), a soldier of the Restoration Army, returns to his hometown of Sawando to announce the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. However, his message is misinterpreted, and he must help the village, which has been swindled by corrupt government officials. Along the way, Gonzo's personal life becomes entangled, particularly with Tomi (Shima Iwashita), his old flame. The film ends with a poignant message, as the peasants celebrate their newfound freedom with a defiant cry.
