Shima Iwashita is a Japanese actress born on January 3, 1941, in Tokyo, Japan. She began her acting career at 16 after giving up a dream to become a psychiatrist due to childhood rheumatism and made her film debut in 1960. Known for starring in the Yakuza Wives series of films, she was recognized as one of the top female movie stars of the 20th century by Kinema Junpo's readers' poll in 2000.
