Juarez

The film "Juarez" (1939) tells the story of the conflict between Benito Juárez, the U.S.-backed president of Mexico, and Emperor Maximilian von Habsburg, who is installed as the ruler of Mexico by French Napoleon III. The tension between the two leaders escalates as Maximilian, with the support of his wife Carlota, tries to impose French supremacy on Mexico, while Juárez refuses to compromise on democratic self-rule. The American Civil War and the threat of military intervention by the United States further complicates the situation, as Juárez's rebels, aided by General Porfirio Diaz, eventually capture Maximilian and his men, leading to a tragic conclusion.
