Struggling with money, violence, and social pressure, a couple of youngsters, Kei Arishima (Aiko Morishita) and Atsuo Kuwata (Toshiyuki Nagashima), are drawn to dangerous games of death. Kei, a high school student from Hokkaido, is living with her sister in Tokyo for the summer and meets Atsuo, a college student from a rival university, at a beach in Kamakura. Kei's boyfriend, Yu Arishima (Yoshie Shimamura), is also present, and the three engage in a series of events, including a "heart-on-the-sleeve" game, where Kei and Atsuo, who is also part of a group of delinquents, play a game of "heart-on-the-sleeve" in which the loser dies, but the game is stopped by a chance encounter with an elderly man, who later gives Kei a small gift.
