The Couch Trip

The Couch Trip follows John W. Burns Jr., a misfit patient at a Chicago mental facility who impersonates his doctor Lawrence Baird to escape confinement. He takes a job in Beverly Hills as a therapist and radio host, where his unconventional style quickly gains popularity, attracting the attention of fellow therapist Dr. Laura Rollins (Donna Dixon) and Donald Becker (Walter Matthau), a kleptomaniac ex-priest and fellow misfit. As John's popularity grows, he develops a romantic interest in Laura and forms an unlikely bond with Donald, but his deception is eventually exposed, leading to a series of events that ultimately lead John and Donald on the run together.
