A Damsel in Distress

Lady Alyce Marshmorton (Joan Fontaine) must marry soon, and the staff at Tottney Castle have laid bets on who she'll choose. Albert places a bet on "Mr. X", someone totally out of the blue, when he meets American entertainer Jerry Halliday (Fred Astaire). Jerry is incorrectly led to believe that he is the American whom Lady Alyce loves, and he visits the castle to aid her. With his help, they find romance amidst class differences and family opposition.
