Joan Fontaine was a British-American actress known for her starring roles in Hollywood films during the Golden Age. Born Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland in Tokyo, Japan, she began her film career at RKO Pictures and gained recognition for her roles in Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca and Suspicion. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Suspicion and continued to appear in notable films throughout the 1940s.
