The Bitter Tea of General Yen

In 1930s Shanghai during the Chinese Civil War, American missionary Megan Davis (Barbara Stanwyck) is kidnapped by powerful warlord General Yen (Nils Asther), who brings her to his palace after a chaotic rescue mission. As Megan navigates the treacherous world of the general's court, she finds herself torn between her Christian ideals and her growing attraction to the charismatic leader. Despite her efforts to resist, Megan becomes embroiled in the general's affairs and ultimately faces the consequences of her own vulnerability.
