Bitter Rice

In Northern Italy, two-bit criminals Francesca and Walter evade the police by hiding among the rice fields, where they meet Silvana, a voluptuous peasant rice worker, and Marco, a soon-to-be-discharged soldier. As their lives become intertwined, the four characters become embroiled in a complex plot involving robbery, love, and murder. Silvana's character serves as a representation of American cultural influences, highlighting the allure of materialism and the downfall that can result from it, as she becomes manipulated by Walter's criminal lifestyle.
