The Circus

The Circus follows Charlie Chaplin's character, the Tramp, as he becomes the star of a struggling circus after being mistaken for a pickpocket and inadvertently causing chaos during a performance. The ringmaster hires him as a property man, but eventually recognizes his comedic potential and pays him accordingly. The Tramp befriends Merna, the ringmaster's step-daughter, who is treated badly by her father, and helps her secure better treatment. When Merna falls in love with Rex, the tightrope walker, the Tramp loses his chance to entertain the crowds, but eventually finds a way to bring them together through his antics.
