Biography
Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr., born April 16, 1889, was an English comic actor and filmmaker who rose to fame in the era of silent film. He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona, the Tramp, and is considered one of the film industry's most important figures, known for directing films that showcased this character from 1914 onwards. Chaplin co-founded United Artists in 1919 and continued working in the entertainment industry until his death on December 25, 1977.
