Scandal

A celebrity photograph sparks a court case as a tabloid magazine spins a scandalous yarn over a painter and a famous singer, Ichirō Aoye (Toshirō Mifune) and Miyako Saijo (Yoshiko Yamaguchi), who team up with lawyer Hiruta (Takashi Shimura) to take the magazine to court. As they prepare for trial, Hiruta becomes increasingly torn between his commitment to justice and his desperate need to care for his tuberculosis-stricken daughter Masako. The film explores themes of press freedom, moral compromise, and the human cost of celebrity culture, all set against a backdrop of winter's transformation into spring.
