The Ondekoza

The Ondekoza is a 1989 documentary that profiles a Japanese taiko drumming group from remote Sado Island, Japan. The film features real-life footage of the troupe's training and performances, set against an experimental electronic music score by Toshi Ichiyanagi. The troupe members - Eitetsu Hayashi, Toshio Kawauchi, Yoshiaki Ooi, Yoshikazu Fujimoto, and Takumi Takano - are themselves portrayed in the film as skilled performers who blend traditional taiko techniques with innovative musical styles.
