The story unfolds in an industrial town where a young and charming literature teacher arrives, assigned to teach at an evening school. Nina Ivanova plays Tatyana Sergeyevna, the educated girl who falls under the affection of Nikolay Krushenkov (Gennadi Yukhtin), but communication between them turns out to be quite challenging. As Sasha Savchenko (Nikolai Rybnikov) tries to win her attention, he misinterprets their friendship with Krushenkov and eventually realizes his true feelings for Tatyana.
