Not as a Stranger

The film follows Lucas Marsh (Robert Mitchum), a brilliant and dedicated medical student who marries older nurse Kristina "Kris" Hedvigson (Olivia de Havilland) to help pay for his education. Kris's skills in the operating room are invaluable, but her husband's indifference towards her leads to an unplanned pregnancy, causing her to finally leave him. As Lucas navigates his marriage and medical career, he becomes infatuated with a local siren, leading to a reconciliation with Kris after a series of setbacks.
