In 1592, South Korea teeters on the brink of destruction as Japanese forces close in. Against this backdrop of chaos and bloodshed, a small band of mercenaries steps forward to protect a young prince who will become the country's last hope for survival: Crown Prince Gwanghae, son of King Seonjo, who has fled into exile to escape the invaders. Led by To-woo, a seasoned fighter with a code of honor that may be tested by the harsh realities of war, these "proxy soldiers" embark on a perilous journey to safeguard the prince's future and rally his people against the enemy.
