Man Friday

In this adaptation of Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe," Peter O'Toole plays a stiff and superior Englishman who finds himself outmatched by his intelligent and empathetic black island companion, Friday, played by Richard Roundtree. After Crusoe tries to impose Western concepts on Friday, the native rebels against his attempts to change him, leading to a reversal of their roles in a striking display of cultural exchange. Ultimately, Friday turns the tables on Crusoe, forcing him to confront the limitations of his own heritage and ways, and leaving the Englishman stranded alone once more.
