Under the Open Sky

Mikami Masao (Koji Yakusho), a middle-aged former yakuza, is released from prison after serving 13 years for murder and sets out to find his long-lost mother. He applies for a TV show and meets young TV director Tsunoda Ryutaro (Taiga Nakano), who helps him navigate normal life but struggles with Mikami's impulsive nature and ingrained beliefs, leading to friction in their relationship. As Mikami tries to adjust to society, he faces various challenges, including job hunting, dealing with his troubled past, and struggling to control his violent tendencies. Ultimately, Mikami's fragile state is tested when he reunites with his ex-wife Kumiko (Narumi Yasuda) and her daughter, leading to a poignant conclusion.
