Amai yoru no hate

"Amai yoru no hate" (1961) is a Japanese drama film directed by Yoshishige Yoshida, starring Masahiko Tsugawa as Jirō Tezuka and Teruyo Yamagami as Harumi Nishimoto. The film follows the life of an opportunistic department store clerk who manipulates those around him to climb the social ladder, including bar madam Soko Mishima (Michiko Saga), diner waitress Harumi, and Masae Oka (Hiroko Sugita). Through Jirō's relationships with these women, the film critiques social hierarchies and explores themes of exploitation and disillusionment.
